COMMUNITY- Located approximately 16 miles north of Bloomsburg in an expanding rural area, the Benton Area School Community has an approximate population of 4,850. This area is known for its wide-open space, rolling terrain, and natural beauty.

SCHOOL- Benton Middle/Senior High School is a six-year comprehensive, public school, having a total enrollment of 275. Approximately 75% of our students are enrolled in the college preparatory sequence. Including the minimum state requirements for graduation, students in the class of 2020, must successfully complete a total of 25 credits to be eligible for graduation. The school year consists of four marking periods, with graduation taking place in June. Over 75% of all students are involved in at least one facet of a broad-based activity program, which is notably strong in areas of athletics, music, and student government.

CURRICULUM- Honors courses are offered in grade 9 in English, Mathematics, Social Studies, and Science. Advanced Placement courses are offered in AP Studio Art, AP Calculus, AP Environmental Science, AP Chemistry, and AP Biology. Penn College courses are also available to our students in the areas of Psychology, English, Anatomy & Physiology, and Family Consumer Science. Benton High School students also can receive dual enrollment credit for College Algebra through Luzerne County Community College. Benton has two PDE approved Agriculture programs for students to consider. They are Agriculture Mechanization and Production Agriculture.

HIGHER EDUCATION- The Class of 2019 had 60% going to 4-year schools and 20% going to 2-year trade or technical schools, 20% are employed or going into the armed forces.

RANK IN CLASS- Class rank is computed at the end of each academic year and at the end of the first, third and fourth semester of the senior year. All students in the class are included and ranking is cumulative from grades nine through twelve. Students enrolled in Honors courses are weighted at 1.03 and AP/college level courses are weighted at 1.06. Students who achieve a minimum scholastic average of 90% for five semesters become eligible for admission to the National Honor Society.

SAT SCORES- The class of 2019 had an overall SAT score of a 1048. (ERW Mean= 536 Math Mean=513)
AP SCORES- 17 total exams were given, 12 students passed with a 3 or higher.

Advanced notice is preferred. With minor variations from year to year, the school day begins at 7:55 a.m. and ends at 3:04 p.m.
